Playing with After Effects

One of our recent projects from uni was learning how to use After Effects. I created a short ident animation for my blog. I'm not very happy with the end but hopefully it's not too bad for a first attempt!

  1. Very nice - try to add some "ease in" and "ease out" effects, The tomato should accelerate towards the ground not fall constantly, and if you slow the tomato plant down towards the end of it growing it might look more natural.
Maybe zoom in on the tomato, keep it central to the camera as it falls so the plant rushes up next to it and add some motion blur (although that might ruin the cartoon effect). I don't know if the plant's tall enough for this to work though but should be easy enough to experiment.
One last thing - add sound! A slight creaking as the plant grows, popping as the tomatoes appear, and a whistle as one falls, followed by a splat.

As for the end: fill the screen with the splat, don't just leave it on the bottom of the screen. Make it expand towards the viewer. If you fill the screen the text can be in the splat. Think CBBC!
